Who is Pablo?

It Took a Village
Here's part of the village it took to find Saba and Gringa their new home. Thank you to all of our volunteers that stepped up and helped walk, foster, donate, take them to Mingle and love them.

It started with her angels in Guatemala (Nicte and Pablo) to Denise (with the tremendous transport effort and many supplies) to Brooke who provided them the most wonderful foster home. Brooke's home provided the girls a place to relax and enjoy life until their fore
ver home was found. Her love was boundless and just what Saba & Gringa needed. Thank you Brooke, you came along when the girls really needed you. Thanks to Stephanie and friends at Pet Palace and Dr Kristy Clay at Gahanna Animal Hospital for their love and attention as well.

After a few months, came Ron and Claudia. Having had rescues all of their lives, their last baby passed away a few months ago and they wanted to adopt two dogs this time and fell in love with Saba and Gringa. We wish them a long and happy life!

We have also been assisting Pablo with his spay/neuter program. With few resources for people, let alone animals, overpopulation & neglect is off the charts. His organization, Guaus & Miaus, has done over 13,000 surgeries in 4 years! That is an amazing feat. We reached out for assistance to help the dogs/cats of Guatemala. Jacquie Mahan, a long time supporter, immediately donated $10,000.  We were able to pay an educator to travel Guatemala and educate about spaying/neutering and animal care in general. We also purchased some surgery tools (some donated by IMS), and sponsor over 100 spays/neuters for stray dogs/cats living in a landfill. Thank you Jacquie for helping thousands of animals in Guatemala.  Contact Mirna if you are interested in becoming a part of this project

Pablo and his amazing volunteers have performed close to 19,000 sterilizations in less than 5 yrs. They have opened a second location and are also assisting other groups in El Salvador.
They operate strictly from donations. We are sending them much needed supplies and are asking for your help for any of the following. We can save funds by having these items donated. We plan on sending the items in two weeks as one of our volunteers is traveling to Florida to meet one of their vets.
Stethescopes

Navy blue scrubs and surgery caps
Flea and tick prevention
Pulse oximeter
Digital Non Contact Thermometer
Large suitcases
Monetary Donations (so we can purchase missing items)

Help with sending donations to Guatemala.

The little girl pictured  is Thelmita. She is from a small, very rural, poor village that is served by Pablo and his wonderful organization.

We continue to help our friends in Guatemala by sending them sterilization instruments. We were able to purchase a few packs with donations from our fabulous supporters.  However, they need more and other supplies. One of the items they are also in need of are v-trays (thoracic positioner). The v-trays are about $21 and they need 12 trays.
They are aggressively spaying/neutering to help reduce the tremendous pet overpopulation problem in Guatemala. They are in need of all supplies to be able to help all the strays. CDC is collecting donations to be able to purchase more.

We are in need of assistance with the cost of sending these donations and others to them. If you have any contacts that may be able to assist us please let us know. Please post and share.

A $200 donation gave the dogs below their ticket to life off a chain.  They are living in a sanctuary but had to be chained because they were not spayed/neutered.  Our generous donors paid for all of them to be sterilized.  As if Pablo doesn't do enough already, he volunteers during his lunch time and let us know about the chained dogs.  Now they can roam freely at the sanctuary.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Anita Gaidek of IMS, the company that manufactures surgery instruments used for sterilizations.

A few of our donors were interested in the amazing work Pablo & his organization, Castraciones Guaus & Miaus (CGM) is doing  in Guatemala.  We  we were able to purchase  instruments and mail to him.

When Anita heard of our mission to help CGM, she immediately made a generous donation of more instruments.  IMS is indeed our partner in this endeavor.  Thank you Anita and IMS.

Saba and Gringa are two dogs from Guatemala.  Guatemala has a pet overpopulation epidemic –where stray dogs are as common as cars.
For those that love animals and whose hearts are touched by their ongoing pain and struggles, this is very difficult to see on a daily basis.
Saba and Gringa were rescued by a young woman by the name of Nicte Yos. They were her foster dogs. Saba was named after the Savannah Dessert because her skin was in very poor condition and to this day has the remnants of a skin condition aggravated being malnourished and stressed.  Saba was placed in an adoptive home, and she ran off traveling 30 miles to return to her rescuer, Nicte.
Nicte did not have the heart to adopt her out again, and adopted herself.

They are both very sweet dogs ranging in age from 3-7 years and weighing about 40ish pounds.

Nicte, whose heart was as big as her vision, rescued many “callajeros” (strays as they are called in Guatemala).  Her ongoing experience in rescue led her and her brother to start an organization Castraciones Guaus & Miaus – Guatemala.   This is a very aggressive spay/neuter program, they are sterilizing 100’s of dogs and cats every month in every little village, town, city in Guatemala. It is truly remarkable.
Unfortunately, few months ago, Nicte was murdered, a victim of domestic abuse.  Just the previous day she had been volunteering at one of the clinics-living her dream.  Her passing has been devastating for her family and her dogs and cats. She had four dogs, two of which have found homes but Saba and Gringa, due to their age and skin condition, have not found a home.

We are hoping to bring them to Columbus Ohio. Our 501c3 rescue, Columbus Dog Connection is prepared to offer them excellent veterinary care and foster homes.

I feel a special connection to these dogs, not only because I am from Guatemala but also because I am a rescuer and 30 years ago, I rescued a dog from Guatemala while on vacation visiting my family.  She was in poor physical condition and had difficulty moving.  She was a stray lying on the sidewalk and as people passed by her they would kick her. I could not understand this. She was about one year old and weighed 9 pounds. Her ideal weight should have been 35-40 pounds. I brought her back to the states with me and she lived to the ripe old age of 17.
Saba and Gringa have undergone medical treatment for their skin condition (their skin issues are related to being in a stressful situation, they are NOT contagious) over the last 2-3 months and are now ready for travel.

Arrangements have been made for them to fly from Guatemala to Texas and we are now seeking assistance to fly them from Texas to Columbus Ohio on or about June 21st.  These girls need to start their new life. They were the only witnesses to their owner’s murder and were always at her side. Please help us help them.  Please share and help us find a miracle for Saba and Gringa.
