In Memory of Macey Mae & Baron, beloved dogs of Stacy Swaney & Jennifer Shaner.   Pictures of the Event
In April of 08’ we lost our yellow Lab, Macey to Lung Cancer, she would have been 9 this year.  This was a much unexpected death and a sudden loss to our family.

Macey was a wonderful dog, she loved life!  She was happiest when she was swimming, rolling on her back, or just letting the wind blow her ears back.  With the loss of Macey, we wanted to do something special to honor her.  Stacy and I organized the 1st Annual Macey Mae Golf Outing, on Sept. 6th.  We chose the Columbus Dog Connection as the organization we would donate to and support.  They provide so many wonderful services to help out our local dogs in need, and we wanted to help support them and show them our appreciation for all that they do.  In August of 08’ while planning this golf event to honor Macey, we lost our black lab Baron. He would have been 10 this year.  Baron was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in his right kidney called Renal Carcinoma in Oct. 07’.  Although we were aware of his cancer and the prognosis, to lose a second dog within 4 months was heartbreaking for both of us.  Baron also loved to swim & dive off the dock, play fetch, and eat the occasional 4th of July Pie without permission!  Baron brought great joy to our family.

Our Golf Outing was a huge success!  Although the memories and the loss of two dogs were hard at times while planning this event, we were both passionate to meet our goal and help our local dogs.  We had a huge turn out of golfers with beautiful weather, which made the day perfect.  We would like to take time to thank everyone who participated, donated, and supported us.    Family, Friends, Golfers, Volunteers, Willow Run Golf Course, The Dogfather, Catch –N-Fetch, Moochie & Co., G-Cor Automotive, Stephen Gould Corp., Candace Greenblott Design, Unifirst, Salon Lofts, Dicks Sporting Goods, Kroger Marketplace Gahanna, Chase Bank Gahanna, Papa Boos, Subway Pataskala, Chipotle, Donatos, Dairy Queen Gahanna, Rising Moon, Cold Stone Creamery, Graeters Ice Cream, City BBQ, Seekers Coffee, Cup O Joe/Stauf’s, Bag O Nails, Buck Mulligans, Village Baker and a special thanks to Robert & Jo Ann Wilhelmsen.

Thank you to the Columbus Dog Connection for all that you do!   Stacy & Jennifer

June 2008  Mirna,  Nine years ago, I was a college student at OSU browsing the internet when I came across the Columbus Dog Connection website and the picture of a 6 year-old German Shepherd named Ruby.  I had the opportunity to meet her at her foster family's home (a very nice couple of two women) and fell in love right away.  I think it was within a week that Ruby came home with me and she had been at my side since.

Some time last night, Ruby, at the ripe age of 15,  give or take a few months because of I deemed her adoption date (4/30/99) as her birthday, passed away.  She was normal 48 hours ago but we took her to the vet yesterday morning because she had vomited and was weak.  They kept her and started her on IV fluids and IV antibiotics.  As we were walking out the door this morning to see her, the vet called and told us she didn't make it.  Ruby was such a wonderful dog!  When I adopted her at the age of 6, I never thought she would be with me for nearly a decade.  In her time with me, she had  moved with me from Columbus to Southern California for a year and then to Louisville, Kentucky for the last four years.

As I grieve her loss, I am thankful for the Columbus Dog Connection that brought us together.  Your organization took in an older dog that had been bounced from one home to another to a foster family and then to me . . . I am so lucky to have  had Ruby in my life.  Thank you Columbus Dog Connection for the work you do!
In honor of Ruby's memory, I would like to make a donation to CDC.  Thank you again,      Belinda & Kevin Muench

May 2007 In Loving Memory of my brother, Bill Thorton
My brother pass away after a short but terrible battle with pancreatic cancer.  Bill loved dogs.  He deeply loved the dogs that were our family pets over the years, and grieved terribly when we lost each one.  We plan to bury him with the ashes of him most recent dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Corky.  My family has requested
donation in lieu of flowers to two dog related charities, on of which is Columbus Dog Connection.  Bill would have appreciated the wonderful work you do and he loved our dogs, Sammy and Gracie, both Columbus Dog Connection alumni.    Kristen and Doug Everman

March 2007  Bailey will be greatly missed by her family and friends.    She will be really missed by her brother Barnum, who loved going on long walks with her,
and especially loved diving into the lake and beating her to the balls, and stealing them away from her.    There is a void in the Bradley house, but
a special spot in their hearts that will hold special memories, for a very special member of their family.       Love always,   Sarah, “Fran” & Frisco

February 2007

dog brother, who was a CDC adoptee, and her human sister, who’s first words were “Go, Brit go”.    Made by friend Sarah Schwartz
